Basic Life Support

Toronto First Aid is a training provider that is very popular among people who work in, study, or are interested in healthcare. We have a variety of health-related training programs, focusing on food safety, first aid, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The last category is most popular among healthcare providers, particularly because the curricula of three of our CPR programs are targeted towards HCPs.

If you are interested in learning about cardiopulmonary resuscitation, you can sign up for a program at Toronto First Aid by filling up the form below. Once you click submit, we will receive your details and will be able to reply to and confirm your application during the next business day (if you sent the form in after business hours). Our offices are open from 8 AM to 5 PM if you want to call or visit us; our staff will be very happy to give you a tour around the facility and you might even get to see our trainers in action.

CPR Level C: Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers

Level C of CPR training is available at Toronto First Aid; it is a program that runs for 4.5 hours, inclusive of lectures and return demonstrations. After completing the program, the certification exam (written and skills test) is typically scheduled on another day. A student needs to pass both the written and skills test to pass and receive a CPR Level C training credential.

What you learn from Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers

Aside from CPR Level C, we offer a more basic CPR program that is targeted towards the general public, laypersons who aren’t familiar with healthcare concepts that HCPs are.The more advanced CPR Level C targets people who are familiar with healthcare concepts and skills, allowing the curriculum to be paced faster and include advanced medical topics.

Students can expect to learn the following topics among others in a Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers program:

  • Latest updates to the 2010 guidelines for CPR and ECC (Emergency Cardiovascular Care)
  • High quality CPR skills for adult, child, and infant rescue
  • Chain of Survival
  • One and two-rescuer CPR
  • Choking management for adults, children, and infant victims

Your CPR training credential for CPR Level C

As mentioned previously, a student passes the training program by having complete attendance and getting passing grades on both the written and skills test. It is valid for three years before it expires and has to be renewed.

You can renew your training credential for another three years by signing for a CPR Level C refresher program. It runs shorter, for only four hours over a single day. A refresher course focuses on updates to Basic Life Support for healthcare providers in the past three years. You may opt to take a refresher course sooner than three years.

Getting started with training: Choking management of adults

  • If an adult is choking, he or she will usually make the universal gesture for choking, which is making making gestures towards his or her throat.
  • First, make five black blows between a person’s shoulder blades to assist him/her in dislodging the blockage.
  • If back blows don’t work, perform five abdominal thrusts. Make a fist and place it just under the sternum and make quick upward thrusts.
