Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)

Occupational Risks and Safety

Occupational risks are part and parcel of every job out there, no matter what industry you work on. However, if you work with hazardous materials (“HAZMAT”) or dangerous goods, this risk greatly increases. Dangerous goods can be toxic waste or byproduct from a manufacturer or biohazards from research and medical facilities. There are many substances that are considered “controlled substances” in Canada, which are specified in an official list from the government.

Handling these kinds if goods can be dangerous, especially transporting them from one location to another. In the facility where they are produced, emergency response systems are fixed and can easily be activated – but during transportation where there is a lack of resources to handle a hazard fully, an accident can be difficult to control. This is where TDG or Transportation of Dangerous Goods training comes in.

TDG at Toronto First Aid

Toronto First Aid is one of many providers in Canada that offer Transportation of Dangerous Goods training. It can be taken as a classroom course or an online course, depending on your personal needs as a student. Our rates are very competitive compared to other providers:

  • Classroom TDG course – 49.99 dollars (inclusive of tax)
  • Online TDG course – 29.99 dollars (inclusive of tax)

The course rates listed previously include everything – tax, certificates, certification fees, and training manuals and equipment. The only thing you will have to spend on during training is lunch and snacks.

Classroom training for TDG

The classroom option for the TDG program is targeted towards students who can attend classes during the time period of 8 AM to 5 PM. This is perfect for new graduates who don’t have work responsibilities. There are nine units in the TDG classroom course. A quiz is given at the end of each unit, plus a final exam (the certification exam).

Online training for TDG

Online training or distance education is a popular choice among students who do not have time to attend sit-in, classroom-type classes. These students usually work or have class during the day, meaning the only free time they have is afternoon and evenings. There are nine modules in the TDG course; students need to pass each module’s post-test before they can proceed to the next one.

TDG Training Credentials

A Transportation of Dangerous Goods certificate has no expiration date. There are no refresher classes that the certified trainee has to sign up for to keep the validity of their credentials. We do encourage them to retake the course every few years to keep their knowledge and skills up-to-date.

Signing up for TDG classes are pretty simple. You can find a list of our available class schedules below; note that TDG training is only offered monthly. Enrollment can be done online with the form below or in person during our office hours. If you enroll online, we will only be able to confirm your slot during the next business day. Students to enroll in person get immediate confirmation of their slot.
