Management of a scorpion sting
Most cases of stings do not require treatment, but it is best to see a doctor as a precaution.
In case the symptoms are severe, medical care is necessary. Sedatives might be part of treatment if muscle spasms are present. Intravenous drugs are also given for pain, high blood pressure and agitation.
The scorpion antivenom is oftentimes given with caution due to issues with its side effects and cost. The antivenom is considered effective if administered before any symptoms arise. The doctor might also suggest antivenom if the symptoms are severe.

- High blood pressure
- Excitability, restlessness or inconsolable crying
What is the outlook?
In most cases, a scorpion sting can be extremely painful but usually non-venomous and harmless. If an individual was stung by a venomous scorpion and in an area with access to good medical care, recovery is typically fast without any complications.
Children and the elderly face a higher risk for adverse reactions to a scorpion sting. Those who are in areas with limited access to medical care are also at risk.
