Although the timely delivery of CPR can improve the chances of survival, there are instances in which it is not successful. However, it is better to perform the life-saving procedure than doing nothing at all. A 17-year old was killed despite CPR. According to the mother, his son was hit and died on a Cape Breton highway while he was bending over to tie his shoe while walking home from a graduation party.
According to Jenn Hanna, her son Joneil was attending a graduation house party in Leitches Creek. He walked home along with friends at Highway 223 after the party.
Danger on the highway
Her son was hit by a vehicle after stopping to tie his shoe. His friends pulled him out of the ditch to perform CPR but he later died in a healthcare facility.
Based on the police report, a vehicle was seized at the scene but will not divulge if any charges were laid.
Hanna added that her son was a Grade 11 student at Memorial High School in Sydney Mines. He has an 8-month old daughter.
The Cape Breton Regional Police stated that they received several calls about the party. There were hundreds of teens present in the part but decided not to break it up.
