Victim of kite surfing incident receives CPR

A Yarmouth County man died during kite surfing despite the delivery of CPR. Family and friends were saddened by the incident. During emergencies, the prompt delivery of CPR can improve the chances of survival. With this in mind, learning about first aid and CPR can be beneficial in case emergencies occur.

According to Meteghan RCMP, they received a call to Mavillette Beach alerting them about a 53-year old man who was in distress while kite surfing with others. Despite the life-saving efforts to resuscitate the victim, the man died.

Unforeseen tragedy

The man was identified as Russell Cushing of Dayton, Yarmouth County. According to the statement of his loved ones in his obituary, Russell was a “Windchaser” where he loved chasing the wind, pursuing his passion for kite surfing.

According to Sgt. Dan Gaudet of the Meteghan RCMP detachment, the operators received a call that there was a person in distress. The fire and ambulance responded to the scene. Upon arrival at the location, some individuals on the shoreline were delivering CPR on the man. He was transported by EHS to the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.

Due to his sudden death, an autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause and the RCMP is working with the medical examiner’s office.
