A P.E.I. doctor suggests CPR training to help those suffering from a heart attack. According to Dr. Des Colohan, P.E.I chief coroner, the key to surviving a heart attack is to have someone who knows how to respond properly.
Importance of CPR training
Even married couples must take into consideration the fact that if his/her partner collapses, one should know what to do. When an emergency arises, it is best that you know what to do.
The availability of automated external defibrillators (AED) should also be emphasized. Easy access and availability can significantly improve the chances of survival after a heart attack.
The rural nature of P.E.I makes the rate of survival after a heart attack in the province less likely. The ambulance response is relatively faster in urban areas. In addition, there is a limited chance of survival if help does not arrive on the scene within the initial 10 minutes.
Importance of first aid training
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) can save a life. Prompt delivery of life-saving techniques improves the chances of survival during emergencies.
