Many mishaps occur on the road where some can result in minor injuries while others can be fatal. The Richmond RCMP is currently investigating a fatal incident on No. 1 Road and Tucker Road. Based on the report released by the Mounties, an 81-year old Richmond woman was hit by a late-model Mercedes SUV.
The witnesses of the accident delivered medical assistance including CPR until the arrival of the emergency crew. The woman was transported to a health care facility where she was later declared dead from her injuries.
Increasing rates of pedestrian collisions
The driver of the SUV, a 78-year old man who was also from Richmond did not leave the scene of the accident and was cooperative with the police in charge of the investigation.
Factors such as alcohol and speed are not considered contributing elements of the collision based on the report of the investigators. Recently, there were several pedestrian collisions through Metro Vancouver and this is one of the fatal cases.
Richmond’s Cpl. Dennis Hwang is currently urging both pedestrians and drivers to be careful and alert while on the road. As part of safety, pedestrians should always be vigilant when attempting to cross the road while drivers should also be alert at the same time.
