An elderly man was saved with CPR by casino staff at Casino Nova Scotia. The timely delivery of life-saving measures is crucial for survival during emergencies. Jamael was having their regular weekly lunch at Celtic Junction Bar & Grille restaurant and trying his luck on some of the machines.

Scary turn of events

The day shifted into a scary ordeal when Jamael went into cardiac arrest. He collapsed on the floor of the casino.

Ian Flynn, a security shift manager at the casino went to Jamael along with Bob Monahan the casino security, and Gina Ryan the casino security manager. The man was not breathing and did not have a pulse. They immediately started CPR while Gina went to get the automated external defibrillator (AED).

According to Flynn, who is a first aid instructor for staff at the casino, they started CPR within 45 seconds and delivered shocks from the AED within 3 ½ minutes. Upon the arrival of the paramedics, Jamael was transported to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital where he stayed for up to 2 weeks. He was later transported to a healthcare facility in Halifax where a defibrillator was implanted.

Remember that CPR increases the chances of survival.
