Learning first aid and CPR is important these days. These life-saving skills will always come in handy when emergencies occur. People always listen when paramedic Kelly Dashney speaks. She has been working with the medical team of NASCAR and Formula 1 events.

The immediate delivery of CPR maintains a steady flow of oxygen to the brain. If an individual is experiencing cardiac arrest, there is a reserve of 4-6 minutes of oxygen in the blood. After this span of time, the brain is deprived of oxygen if chest compressions are not started and the condition of the person starts to deteriorate further.

Importance of life-saving skills

According to Dashney, sitting in a 30-minute training class is not a long time, but it is better than having no training at all especially when faced with an emergency when a life is in danger.

The compressions that you should deliver during CPR must be forceful and frequent. It is important to stick to a minimum of 30 compressions per minute is necessary.

As part of training in first aid and CPR course, using an AED (automated external defibrillator) is also vital. At the present, public buildings, daycares, swimming pools, and fitness centers often have an AED available. After turning on the device, the device provides instructions on what to do.
